About The Band
Broken Child is a central Ohio based Christian rock band. Started by musical producer/pianeer Benjamin Straiton and lead guitarist/vocalist Thomas Straiton, Broken Child was formed to experiment with music and sound to understand the world we live in. Not only can lyrics, rhythm, and melody take us to other worlds, but they can also take us to a place of deep introspection and discovery of the people, cultures, and environment around us. Through our music and performance we hope you share in our experience and journey of discovery.
Benjamin Straiton
Band manager, producer, lyricist, and pianeer, Benjamin founded the band with his two brothers, Thomas and Jacob, in their parents' basement. They soon added a life long friend, Derek Harper, to fill out the low frequencies on his electric bass guitar.
Benjamin's production, composition, and piano skills are mostly self taught with his early education and passion provided by his mother who taught all of her four boys their first musical skills on the piano. He composes music and lyrics for the band as well as for Thomas Straiton Creations film productions.
The band has been together for some time playing private events, but has only recently started playing covers and originals at public venues, winning a Battle of the Bands early on in 2017. Noticing a financial and technical hurdle to producing professional quality music for the emerging musician or band, Benjamin started a non-profit venture to bring access to affordable professional quality recording equipment and space to the local musician. The accessible recording studio and media center will soon be established in the Columbus area and open to all. He hopes it will become a place of collaboration where the community can come together to experience and discuss music.
At the root of it all is the Band's strong Christian roots, taking every step by faith, hoping it takes them and their families ever closer to each other and to God.
Thomas Straiton
A self taught Musician, Composer, Videographer, and Animator, Thomas is the lead guitarist and singer for Broken Child. At a young age, Thomas fell in love with music and has spent countless hours writing, recording, and perfecting his own style.
